Habanero’s was part of Fort Worth for nearly two decades before it became part of our family. Generations of neighbors have celebrated birthdays, caught up after work and shared meals at familiar tables. When we became owners, we knew we weren’t starting over. We were stepping into a story this community had already written, and we wanted to honor its roots while giving the next chapter our whole hearts.
We’re Lawrence and Michelle Caldwell; local owners, parents and believers that a restaurant should make you feel something before the food even arrives. We wanted Habanero’s to reflect the Fort Worth we love: welcoming, full of personality and always ready to pull up another chair. That spirit lives in the little things, a genuine greeting, a team that notices and a place where families, coworkers and friends can settle in and be themselves.
For us, owning a family restaurant is personal. Some days you’re celebrating; others, you just need a break and someone else to handle dinner. We want your first visit to feel as thoughtful as your fiftieth. And when we miss the mark, we want to hear it, make it right and earn another chance.
We’ve kept the Tex-Mex favorites that made Habanero’s a neighborhood staple while bringing our own Texas-first personality to the menu, from enchiladas and fajitas to juicy burgers with habanero bacon jam and our fajita-style ribs. Habs has evolved with us. When we became owners more than three years ago, the restaurant carried a distinctly Baja-inspired, tropical identity. We’ve intentionally moved in a different direction, building something that feels authentically Texan, welcoming and uniquely ours. Tex-Mex is at the heart of Habanero’s, but it does not define the limits of what can come out of our kitchen. We’ve had fun at the bar, too: La Mariposa Margarita honors our little girl, while Area 151 reminds us that a night out should come with a little adventure.
But the real heart of Habanero’s is our people. Seen, valued and heard is how we want every guest and team member to feel. It’s in the server who remembers your usual, the cook who takes pride in your plate and the manager who makes a difficult visit right. Those small moments are what we mean when we say “Welcome Home.”
That promise is bigger than a tagline. It is the foundation of the hospitality brand we’re building and the standard we want to carry forward as Habanero’s grows. Every visit gives us another chance to listen, improve and make the experience better.
We’re proud of how far Habanero’s has come, and deeply grateful to the guests who bring their friends, celebrate life with us and vote for us in the DFW Favorites awards. Just as much, we’re grateful to the team that gives this place its spirit every day. We want to keep earning your trust, one meal and one welcome at a time.
And we’re not finished. What began with our family taking responsibility for a Fort Worth favorite has grown into a bigger vision: a Texas hospitality brand grounded in genuine connection, a strong team culture and food that reflects the state we love. As Habs grows, those principles will continue to shape what comes next.
